PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new magnetic recording apparatus and method for realizing high density recording in excess of a thermal fluctuation limit. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording apparatus provided with a magnetic field application means (16) and a current supply means (15) and magnetically recording information onto a recording medium (10) having first and second magnetic layers (14, 12) is characterized in that the magnetic field application means applies a magnetic field to the first magnetic layer, the current supply means supplies a current to the recording medium, which is brought into a spin polarization state, to cause spin polarization to the supplied current in the first magnetic layer, and the resulting current is supplied to the second magnetic layer for orientating the magnetization in response to the spin polarization to record the information.
