Gas-permable and water-impermable composite material comprises a microporous polymer film coated on one side with a thermoplastic adhesive containing crosslinked alkali metal polyacrylate particles with an average diameter of 1-65 mum Independent claims are also included for: (1) a product comprising an absorbent fibrous mat (woven or nonwoven) attached to the adhesive side of a composite material as above and optionally covered with a protective film; (2) a product comprising a plastic film attached to the adhesive side of a composite material as above.
