PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and method whose cost can be reduced by sharing the processing of identification information of a copying function and the processing of identification information of a printer function. SOLUTION: This image forming device has an area identifying part 11 for receiving first image information DATc from a scanner 103 and outputting a first area identification signal DSCc, a lookup table 14 for receiving second image information DATp and attribute information TAG from a printer controller 161 and using a conversion table 14 to convert the second image information and the attribute information into second area identification information DSCp of a standard common with the first area identification signal, a high quality processing part 13 for processing the image information in accordance with the identification information, and a printer engine 104 for forming an image in accordance with the processed image information. The cost of the image forming device is reduced by making, for example, the circuit of the high quality processing part 13 common because the identification information is common.
