PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk recording and reproducing apparatus capable of effectively utilizing a recording area of a disk while saving a recording capacity by performing another recording after releasing recording areas through the deletion of a program recorded by the same preceding reservation a little before performing timer reservation recording in the case of weekly/daily reservation. SOLUTION: The disk recording and reproducing apparatus includes a recording area automatic update means capable of releasing recording areas of the disk recording and reproducing apparatus according to mode information denoting whether or not a program of the same reservation recorded just before timer reservation recording is to be deleted in the case of the weekly/daily reservation.
