PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information authentication system capable of improving security at electronic settlement.

SOLUTION: A signature written on a credit card in advance and a handwritten signature which is not written in advance are read by a scanner 102 of a copying machine 100. The read signature and the handwritten signature are collated with each other, and it is determined whether the signature and the handwritten signature are identical or not based on the collation result.
