PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-band ultrasonic probe which is excellent in transmission and reception characteristic. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic probe, in which an acoustic matching layer is provided on a piezoelectric plate having a curved surface with the continuously changing thickness, has a configuration in which the thickness of the acoustic matching layer changes continuously corresponding to the thickness of respective regions of the piezoelectric plate, to perform acoustic matching in the respective regions. The acoustic region has a thickness ofλ/4 of the thicknesses of the respective regions of the piezoelectric plate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
