PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging unit for decreasing a luminance difference between respective video images resulting from photographing a plurality of imaging areas and displaying the video images with an entirely proper lightness on one screen. SOLUTION: The imaging unit is provided with: an imaging element for photographing respective objects 2, 3 existing in two photographing areas 11, 12; a video signal processing means 10 for processing a video signal from the imaging element 1 to display the processed video signal on a screen of a monitor section 6 comprising two screen areas corresponding to the photographing areas 11, 12; and an adjustment means 16 for adjusting the luminance of each screen area so that the luminance of the screen is within a prescribed range. The adjustment means 16 calculates the average luminance of the entire screens on the basis of the luminance of each screen area, controls the gain of an analog video signal and the shutter speed of the imaging element 1 so that the average luminance is within a prescribed range to adjust the entire luminance of the screen, and controls the gain of a digital video signal for each screen area to individually adjust the luminance of each screen area.
