PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable image data to be saved even when an external memory is accidentally removed during the saving of the image data into the external memory by mounting the external memory again. SOLUTION: When the image data created by a reading means is saved into the external memory, if a memory sensing means for sensing the presence of the external memory senses that the external memory is removed from a mounting means after the document reading is started, the saving of the image data into the external memory by a saving means is stopped. Then, when the memory sensing means senses that the external memory is mounted again, the saving means is made to carry out a predetermined operation based on the information about the external memory.
