PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording/reproducing device capable of preventing the detection omission of a program search signal at program search no matter whichever mode is employed for recording information on a recording medium. SOLUTION: The recording mode of a recording medium 16 is detected by a recording mode detection section 14 and is sent to a program search determination section 12, and the program search operation of the recording medium 16 is carried out at a driving speed determined by the program search determination section 12 in accordance with the recording mode.
