PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin magnetic tape which allows the practical reliability such as travelling durability to be improved and has the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic. SOLUTION: A ferromagnetic metal thin film (2), a carbon film (3) and a lubricant layer (4) are formed on one side surface of a non-magnetic supporting body (1) in this order. On the other side surface thereof, a nickel thin film or a nickel alloy thin film having a passivation film is formed as a reinforcing layer (5) and, thereby, the rigidity of the whole of the magnetic recording medium is improved. Therein, the lubricant layer (4) is formed with a lubricant which contains (A) fluorine-containing monocarboxylic acids (I) having perfluoroalkyl groups or perfluoropolyether groups, and alkyl groups or alkenyl groups, (B) compounds selected from the group (I) and compounds (II) selected from fluorine-containing carboxylic esters having fluorine-containing organic groups in molecules or (C) compounds selected from the group (I) and compounds (III) having perfluoropolyether chains.
