PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic document system capable of properly ensuring the authenticity of an electronic document.

SOLUTION: A user terminal 12 authenticates a scanner 13, etc., using an authentication device 11, etc. When a scanner 13 acquires image data of a paper document, the scanner 13 generates electronic watermark data and embeds the electronic watermark data in image data. The scanner 13 applies hash calculation to the image data to generate an electronic document including an obtained hash value. The scanner 13 generates an electronic certificate and attaches the generated electronic certificate to the electronic document. The user terminal 12 transmits the electronic document generated by the scanner 13 to an originality of a document guarantee storage device 2 through a LAN 9. The electronic document attached with the electronic certificate is stored in an original document management DB 22.
