PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellular telephone which detects the occurrence of theft or loss of the telephone properly and makes an alarm automatically and immediately. SOLUTION: When the cellular telephone is set at an alarm mode (step 100), a built-in optical sensor is in an operation state, and when a user finish the present use of the cellular telephone and put the telephone in a bag, an attache case or a pocket of the clothes, the optical sensor is shielded from light and comes into a standby state while detecting the non-light state (step 102). In this standby state, the optical sensor continues a monitoring operation so as to detect ambient light continuously (step 103). If the bag or the attache case containing the cellular telephone is stolen, when the bag, etc., is opened to take out the contents, the optical sensor detects a light and automatically transmits an alarm to an alarm transmission destination telephone number which is previously set (step 104).
