The angular contact ball bearing for mounting a steering column has a tolerance sleeve (22) fitted between the inner ring (18) and the column to ensure correct fit. A compression washer (30) is fitted on the sleeve. This has connections (36) to the outer ring (10) which break when the washer is pushed against the sleeve.
