<p>An optical signal router (100) for communications systems is described. The optical signal router includes a switch driver (104) that generates a modulation drive signal containing a linear combination of a DC offset voltage and at least three electrical signals. In one embodiment, each of the at least three electrical signals has a frequency that is a unique integral multiple of a bit-rate. The optical signal router also includes an optical switch (102) having an electrical modulation input (106) that is electrically coupled to the output (122) of the switch driver. The optical switch also includes an optical input (108) that receives a time-division multiplexed optical signal including a plurality of optical subchannels. In one embodiment, each of the plurality of optical subchannels includes the bitrate. The optical switch routes a subset of the plurality of optical subchannels to an optical output (110, 112) in response to the modulation drive signal.</p> |
