A mini transmitter with a limited programmable signal range can be worn by a child, e.g. incorporated in a shoe. The device emits a signal that can be received in a vehicle to alert the driver to the presence of the child. The receiver is coupled to a suitable warning device, e.g. one using acoustic signaling.
