The gear ratio regulation method uses at least 2 control clutches (K1,K2) for allowing a variator (12) and a wheel drive (14) to be coupled together, so that the regulating range of the variator is traversed in one direction for a first gear ratio range and in the opposite direction for a second gear ratio range. Also included are Independent claims for the following; (a) an automatic power-branched continuously variable transmission; (b) a cascade valve for use in a power branched continuously variable transmission; (c) a hydraulic control circuit for controlling a variator.
