Automotive clutch has metal matrix combined with composite materials

An automotive clutch has a housing with an axially movable first clutch plate, and a second clutch plate attached to the housing. A spring-operated pick-up disc has linings on both faces and is co-located with the first and second discs. One or more of the plates is esp. of mixed metal matrix construction and encloses a non-metal phase. Also claimed is a clutch housing of metal matrix composite construction.
