摘要 The invention provides a process for selecting soybean plants and generating soybean lines, which exhibit genetically-controlled herbicide resistance in the absence of genetic engineering, soybean lines that are herbicide resistant, and the naturally-occurring genes that confer herbicide resistance that are exposed by the aforementioned selection process. The process allows for the identification of soybean germplasm that contains naturally-occurring herbicide resistance genes and for the isolation of individual herbicide resistant soybean plants from that germplasm. The process also provides a technique whereby individual plants that express the natural gene(s) for herbicide resistance can be selected from a population of plants derived from seed representing the germplasm. Such herbicide resistance is genetically-controlled and can be reliably expressed and transferred to other soybean plants by conventional plant breeding methods. In addition the genes that control the herbicide resistance that are identified by these processes can be isolated and cloned for future biotechnological applications to generate herbicide resistance in plants or plant lines that do not contain natural herbicide resistance genes within their germplasm.
