The method involves moving a tool relative to a workpiece with an arrangement with a drive train with a motor and drive shaft, a gearbox followed by a drive train with a driven shaft and a pinion that engages a rack joined to the tool. Rotary motion of a further motor(s) is transferred to the gearbox via a further drive train(s) and/or to the rack by a further drive arrangement(s). The drive trains or drive arrangements are locked to each other. The method involves moving the tool relative to a workpiece with a drive arrangement with a drive train (1) with a motor (2) and a drive shaft, a gearbox (6) and a drive train after the gearbox with a driven shaft and a pinion that engages a gear rack joined to the tool. Rotary motion of at least one further motor is transferred to the gearbox via at least one further drive train (1') and/or to the rack by at least one further drive arrangement. The drive trains or the drive arrangements are locked relative to each other.
