METHOD FOR SYNTHESIZING A MINUTIAE TEMPLATE AND INCREASING RELIABILITY OF FINGERPRINT MATCHING USING A FINGERPRINT SENSOR WITH SMALL SENSOR AREA

A method for synthesizing a minutiae template from a first minutiae template and a second minutiae template, which at least partically overlap each other by selecting a minutia from a plurality of minutiae in the first minutiae template, selecting a minutia from a plurality of minutiae in the second minutiae template, matching the minutia in the first minutiae template with the minutia in the second minutiae template by defining an inage region around the minutia template by defining an image region around the minutia in the first minutiae template, defining an inage region around the minutia in the second minutiae template, determining the image pixel value from a plurality of image pixels in the image region around the minutia in the first minutiae template, determining the image pixel value from a plurality of corresponding image pixels in the image region around the minutia in the second DOLLAR iminutiae template, comparing the image pixel value of the image pixels around the minutia in the first minutiae template with the corrxesponding image pixel value of the image pixels around the minutia in the second minutiae template using a correlation function, determining the minutia in the first minutiae template to be matched with the minutia in the second minutia template to the minutiae pair if the result of the comparison fulfils a prescribed criterion, repeating all the above steps for all minutiae template, and transforming the coordinates of the first minutiae template onto the second minutiae template using a transformation function determined when there is at least one matched minutiae, thereby forming a synthesized minutiae template and incorporating codeword into the matching to improve the accuracy.
