The invention relates to methods and apparatus for ensuring the security of sensitive data used in connection with wireless telephone systems. A server receives secure data over a secure computer network (110) and stores that data. If then transmits a user ID, associated with the secure data, to the user over the secure network (130). Thereafter, it receives the user ID from the user over a wireless telephone link (200) and in association therewith receives an identifier associated with the wireless telephone. The identifier and the secure data are stored in association which each other (220). Thereafter, upon proper authorization and, if necessary, authentication and validation, the system will send the secure data to a selected receiver, for example, a website, over a secure network in response to instructions over the wireless network.
