The invention relates to a device for electrically charging nanoparticles suspended in a gaseous flow, consisting of an insulating cylinder into which a metal nozzle, which is connected to the earth, is inserted and which is coupled to a coaxial electrode by means of an insulating part provided with openings. A continuous high-voltage current of a desired polarity producing negative and positive ions in an electric discharge charge is applied between the coaxial electrode and the nozzle. The particles of the neutral aerosol introduced into the insulating cylinder become charged when they collide and adhere to said ions. If the charge thereof is of an opposite sign to the polarity of the source, they are immediately deposited on the coaxial electrode, while the remaining particles exit via the nozzle without suffering any significant losses for recombination. It is thus possible to obtain a monopolar electric charge of said particles which is significantly more efficient than when conventional chargers are used.
|
