A drainage system for a tram car rail, i.e. a sunken rail incorporated into the surface of the road, has slots (16) in the rail ducted to a collecting chamber (4) bolted to the side of the rail via elastic mountings. The mountings incorporate elastic elements which enable relative movement between the rail and the collecting chamber without rupturing the conventional hard fitting for collecting chambers. The collected water drains out of the collecting chamber to a sump or to a drainage system.
