The invention concerns a method and a device for communication with a redundant system. A redundant system is a system comprising duplicated physical entities, forming groups of redundant physical entities. Said physical entities can be routers or communication lines for example. In each group of redundant physical entities, a physical entity is active, the other entity/entities are inactive, redundancy management means controlling the shift of said physical entities from an active status to an inactive status and inversely. The invention is characterized in that it consists in: allocating to each physical entity a physical identifier; allocating to each group of physical entities a logical identifier; communicating with the management means to determine the active physical entities; associating with each logical identifier the active entity physical identifier; transmitting the messages of an application to the redundant system by substituting each logical identifier with the associated physical identifier; transmitting the messages of the redundant system to the application substituting each physical identifier with the associated logical identifier. The invention is particularly useful for processing data concerning air traffic management. More generally, it is applicable to any complex digital data routing system requiring high operational safety.
