A control apparatus, including a first control device, located at, and capable of controlling, a vehicle or premises, which generates and/or transmits a first signal for controlling the vehicle or premises. The first control device generates and/or transmits the first signal in response to a second signal which is generated by and/or transmitted from a second control device located remote from the vehicle or premises. The second control device generates and/or transmits the second signal in response to a third signal generated by and/or transmitted from a third control device located remote from the vehicle or premises and remote from the second control device. The first control device or the second control device processes an access code associated with the vehicle or premises in order to ensure that the third control signal in an authorized signal.
