The present invention relates to novel therapeutical use of erythro-1(4'-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-propanediol. More particularly, the present invention relates to method for treating diseases or disorders associated with inflammation comprising administering the compound or extract of fruits of Illicium verum Hook FIL to the mammal, pharmaceutical composition containing the compound and the extract and use thereof. The erythro-1(4'-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-propanediol and the extract of fruits of Illicium verum Hook FIL containing the compound according to the present invention can be used effectively in treatment or prevention of diseases or disorders with inflammation, especially septic shock.
