1. A melting furnace comprising a sole (3) of refractory material (23, 24) presenting outer faces a metal casing (5) presenting side-walls and a bottom wall pressed against said outer faces of the sole (3), the metal casing (5) presenting at least one longitudinal expansion joint (6) and at least one transverse expansion joint (7, 7'), these expansion joints being formed by continuous slits (17) provided in the metal casing (5) and by a metal strap (16) covering these slits and placed between the inner face of the metal casing and the outer faces of the sole - elastic return means (13, 14, 15) resting on the outer face of the side-walls of the metal casing (5) to make that metal casing (5) follow the contraction of the sole (3) characterized in that a butt-strap (18, 22) in the shape of a hollow section, wherein a cooling fluid (19) flows, is pressed against the outer face of the side-walls and bottom wall of the casing so as to cover the expansion joints (6, 7, 7') provided in these walls. |
