A breastpump assembly (10) includes a hood member (12) having a funnel-shaped shield portion for placement over a breast and a sleeve portion (22) extending from the funnel-shaped portion. The breast pump includes a substantially rigid plastic housing (24) connected to the extending portion of the breast hood (12). A pump (14) is fixed or functionally attached to the housing (24) for applying a negative pressure to the housing (24). A container (16) is attached to the housing (24), the container (16) being in fluid communication with the breast hood (12) to receive expressed breast milk. At least a portion of the breastpump exterior surface includes a compliant portion.
