Torsional vibration damper for an IC engine crankshaft comprises a damping mass (1) in the shape of a segment of a ring. This is mounted in a casing (2) with springs or a viscous damping fluid between the two. The gap (8) between the outer curve of the ring and the casing is smaller than that (9) between the inner curve and the casing. The mass is mounted on profiles (6, 7, 7').
