The output of the alternator, which is mounted in the hub of the rear wheel of the bicycle, is rectified and fed to a voltage stabiliser, battery and voltage detector. The stabiliser and detector are part of an integrated circuit housed in the front light of the bicycle. The battery is also housed in the front light assembly. If the battery voltage falls below a preset level, the stabiliser output is fed to a charging circuit which recharges the battery. The charging circuit may also form part of the integrated circuit. - In addition to driving the front and rear lamps, the system may be used to operate brake lights, direction indicators and a horn.
