PURPOSE:To automate creation work and enable a copy area to be obtained rapidly and accurately by displaying the content of a copy area shown in a display section using characters in a printing system for drawing a layout chart for the creation of specification paper print allocation. CONSTITUTION:A layout frame 50 is displayed in a CRT display unit. This display frame 50 is divided into a display section 500 for a required command menu and a display section 600 to show a pattern graph 51 and a character graph (copy area) 52 on a display according to command menu, and performs various operations on an interactive mode. When the content of this layout display is changed and modified, a corresponding content is displayed real time on the layout display section 600 by making a light pen touch softly a desired command menu of the menu display section 500. Further, a pattern graph 51 and a character graph 52 are displayed in a prearranged area of the display section 600, and are changed, modified, thus creating a desired layout on a display.
