PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly and normally operate a resumption confirming switch without interfering in an installing surface of a cylinder, in a device using a shock absorber main body of a multi-stage coupling plunger. SOLUTION: This elevator shock absorber comprises a hydraulic shock absorber main body 2 wherein a plurality of plungers 6a to 6c are multi-stage coupled on an upper surface of a cylinder 5; a pulley mechanism 3 fixing one end of a flexible long element 9 to the plunger 6a in the highest stage, fixing the other end of the flexible long element 9 to a first fixing portion 8, and wound by a pulley multiplex winding means 10 wherein the middle part of the flexible long element 9 is composed of two moving pulleys 12a, 12b and a fixed pulley 13; and a resumption confirming switch 4 operating according to vertical position of the moving pulleys 12a, 12b.
