PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a solid resol type phenolic resin in a good yield without passing through complex processes. SOLUTION: This method for producing the solid resol type phenolic resin is characterized by comprising a process (a) of performing a reaction of phenols with aldehydes by using an acid catalyst to synthesize a novolak phenolic resin containing≤5 wt.% unreacted phenols and having≤1,500 weight-average molecular weight by a GPC (gel permeation chromatography) measurement, a process (b) of performing a reaction of the novolak type phenolic resin with the aldehydes by using an alkaline catalyst to synthesize a resol type phenolic resin, and a process (c) of dehydrating the resol type phenolic resin so as to become≤5 wt.% water content in the resin.
