PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely stop drying when a moisture-containing muddy object is dried down to the preset moisture content. SOLUTION: This kneading type dryer heats and dries the moisture-containing muddy object by a heater 4 while agitating the moisture-containing muddy object in a vessel 2 by a rotary agitating blade 3 arranged in the drying vessel 2, and has a torque sensor 7 for detecting torque acting on a rotary shaft 5 of the rotary agitating blade 3, and a control device 8 for stopping rotation of the rotary agitating blade 3, and heating of the heater 4 when the torque detected by the torque sensor 7 reaches a desired value T<SB>20</SB>preset according to the moisture content.
