METHOD OF REMOVING PARTICULATE MATTERS FROM EXHAUST GAS FROM INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of removing particulate matters exhausted from an internal combustion engine.

SOLUTION: Exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine passes through a filter capable of trapping the particulate matters, in which an oxidation catalyst is held. The particulate matters trapped in the filter are burnt with NO2in the exhaust gas and NO produced by the burning is put in contact with the oxidation catalyst to form NO2. The particulate matters trapped in the filter are burnt with the NO2. As a result, the burning of the trapped particulate matters with the NO2and the oxidation of NO produced by the burning into NO2with the oxidation catalyst are accomplished in the filter.
