摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of removing particulate matters exhausted from an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: Exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine passes through a filter capable of trapping the particulate matters, in which an oxidation catalyst is held. The particulate matters trapped in the filter are burnt with NO<SB>2</SB>in the exhaust gas and NO produced by the burning is put in contact with the oxidation catalyst to form NO<SB>2</SB>. The particulate matters trapped in the filter are burnt with the NO<SB>2</SB>. As a result, the burning of the trapped particulate matters with the NO<SB>2</SB>and the oxidation of NO produced by the burning into NO<SB>2</SB>with the oxidation catalyst are accomplished in the filter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
