<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining member for a catalytic converter which has much fewer fluctuations in thickness or surface density than those of a conventional retaining member and sufficiently accommodate wall thinning for a catalytic carrier. <P>SOLUTION: This retaining member for the catalytic converter includes a catalytic carrier formed into a cylindrical shape, a casing for storing the catalytic carrier, and a retainer which is wound around the catalytic carrier and provided between the catalytic carrier and the casing.
