PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing oil readily cleanable and removable with water when sticking to a brittle material after processing without lowering processing performances and dispersibility in water even if a lubricating oil, etc., are mixed, a composition for processing the brittle material containing the processing oil and a polishing material and a method for processing the brittle material using the composition for processing. SOLUTION: The processing oil for the brittle material comprises 60-95 pts. mass of a polyethylene glycol, 3-20 pts.mass of a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate and/or a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate, 0.3-10 pts.mass of sorbitan monolaurate and/or sorbitan monooleate and 0-10 pts.mass of an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide block copolymer. The composition for processing comprises the processing oil and the polishing material. The method for processing the brittle material comprises using the composition for processing.
