PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a diesel engine, simplify its construction, and reduce its manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The diesel engine 2 comprises an engine body 4 for converting a fuel into the rotating motion of a crankshaft 9, an oil pump 6 for supplying a lubricating oil to the engine body 4, when driven, and a control device 8 using an oil pump 6 for supplying the lubricating oil to the engine body 4, when not driven. Any-time start of the diesel engine 2 when not in use for a long time is allowed by using the oil pump 6 for intermittently supplying the lubricating oil to the engine body 4. The diesel engine 2 according to this invention, therefore, requires no separate priming oil pump for preventing the default of the lubricating oil, and so it is inexpensive. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
