PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a raw material fine particle which is excellent in dispersibility and dispersion stability and is added in a coating composition to furnish a coated film with a function such as refractive index of a prescribed value and electric conductivity; a coating composition which uses the raw material fine particle, is excellent in dispersibility and dispersion stability and can keep a film strength endurable to practical use and a small haze; a coated film formed using the coating composition: and a functional transparent thin film using the coated film.

SOLUTION: The composite comprises one or more inorganic oxide fine particle covalently bonded to a polymer, wherein the particle has a first order particle size of 0.01-0.1 μm and the polymer has a number-average molecular weight of 20,000 or more. The coating composition comprises at least the above composite and an organic solvent.
