<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the routing of optical path becomes large in scale unwillingly making the entire optical system large because dichroic mirrors are combined and disposed in a conventional color synthesis system. <P>SOLUTION: The optical system which has a scanning image display optical system having a plurality of light sources 106a, 106b and 106c for emitting luminous fluxes (color luminous flux) modulated in accordance with an image signal and having wavelength ranges different from one another, a luminous flux synthesis means for synthesizing a plurality of luminous fluxes emitted from the light sources, and a scanning means 103 for scanning the luminous flux combined by the luminous flux combining means with respect to a surface 105 to be projected to display an image, uses a diffraction element 110 as the luminous flux combination element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
