<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which makes it possible to obtain uniform color purity within pixels. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 100 uses color filters for coloring first light L1 exhibiting an optical path of single directivity by each pixel, and a second light 12 exhibiting a bidirectional optical path. The color filter can be supported by a substrate layer 20 and has a step forming layer 30A of a light transparent material patterned in such a manner that at least one recessed parts (3b and 3w) having a base surface 3b of a prescribed shape and wall surface 3w of a prescribed height corresponding to a region 10t to allow the transmission of the light L1 are formed in one pixel, and a colored layer 1C for coloring the first and second light L1 and L2 deposited on the step forming layer 3C and in the recessed part.
