PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To early discover refrigerant leakage from an expansion valve connected to a stopped machine when only one unit is stopped and the others are operated in a plurality of indoor machines of a multi-type air conditioner. SOLUTION: At cooling operation, drop of a temperature at an indoor piping temperature detection part connected to the stopped indoor machine is read, a compressor is stopped, the expansion valve is fully opened, and the expansion valve is fully closed when the compressor is started again.
