<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized, thin, and lightweight projection type display device. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 principally comprises: an LED array 2 where a plurality of LEDs 7r, 7g, and 7b which can project respective color lights of R, G, and B are arrayed in a shape of a plane or a curved surface; a rod lens array 3 where a plurality of rod lenses 8 for making the color lights emitted by the LEDs 7r, 7g, and 7b uniform in luminance are arrayed in a shape of a plane or a curved surface; a PBS (polarized beam splitter) array 4 which applies polarization conversion to light made incident from the rod lens array 3; a liquid crystal light valve 5 which modulates respective color lights made incident from the PBS array 4 to compose an image; and a projection lens 6 which enlarges and projects the image composed by the liquid crystal light valve 5 on a screen 9. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
