PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external bearing air cooling device of a vertical shaft pump which effectively cools the external bearing of the vertical shaft pump and the vertical shaft pump. SOLUTION: An air cooling fins 23 are provided on the outer periphery of a bearing case 19 covering the external bearing 10 of the vertical shaft pump, and an axial flow fan 1 is fitted to a pump shaft 31 at the upper part of the external bearing 10. The axial flow fan 1 is rotated according to the rotation of the pump shaft 31 to blow air from the axial flow fan to the fins 23 so as to cool the entire part of the external bearing 10 with the air passing through the fins 23. The end part of the fins 23 on a side facing the axial flow fan 1 is tilted toward the direction of a swing flow coming out from the axial flow fan 1, and the end part on the opposite side of the fin 23 is formed so as to face the direction of the rotating shaft of the axial flow fan 1.
