Motor vehicle parking system in which when a motor vehicle approaches the barrier of a car park, a mobile terminal, e.g. a mobile phone, within the vehicle communicates wireless with transceiver devices (10, 11, 13) so that a person wishing to park is authenticated and a barrier opened. When the parking zone is left identification data is again read from the mobile terminal and the barrier is raised once payment is validated or a person's parking rights have been authenticated. The invention also relates to a corresponding system for method implementation. Identification information transfer can be via Bluetooth or SMS.
