PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING CARBONACEOUS SUBSTANCE, CARBONACEOUS SUBSTANCE OBTAINED BY THE PROCESS AND ACTIVE CARBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide processes of producing a carbonaceous substance which are useful in industries and by which the corrosion of an apparatus can be prevented; the contamination and heat accumulation of the final product can be suppressed; and a great amount of the substance can be produced in a short period, and also to provide the carbonaceous substance obtained by the above processes and an active carbon obtained by activating the above substance.

SOLUTION: The activated carbon is obtained by activating the carbonaceous substance prepared by either one of following processes: heat treating a polyvinyl alcohol based resin which has more than 0.2 wt.% to 1 wt.% of a dehydrating agent adhered there to, or its molding as a source material; heat treating a polyvinyl alcohol based resin in an atmosphere containing oxygen by a batch process at a gas flowing rate not less than 1 Nm3/hr.kg or by a continuous process at a gas flowing rate not less than 1 Nm3/kg; heat treating a polyvinyl alcohol based resin or its molding in a gas containing not less than 0.5 volume % to 15 volume % of oxygen.
