PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 4,6-diamino resorcinol compound of a monomer for polybenzobisoxazole compounds, polyimide compounds and polyamide compounds. SOLUTION: The method for producing a 1,3-dialkoxy(bishaloakloxy)-4,6- diaminobenzene compound [formula (4)] comprises reacting 1,3-dihalogeno-4,6- dinitrobenzene compound [formula (1)] with an alcoholate compound [formula (2)] to obtain a 1,3-dialkoxy(bishaloalkoxy)-4,6-dinitrobenzene compound [formula (3)] and reducing the obtained. The method for producing a 4,6- diaminoresorcinol compound [formula (5)] comprises dealkylation of the compound of formula (4) with a strong acid. And the method for producing a 2- alkyl-1,3-dihalogeno-4,6-dinitrobenzen compound [formula (6)] comprises nitration of a 2-aklyl-1,3-dihalogenobenzen compound. (R<SP>1</SP>is H, a 1-10C alkyl or a halogen atom; R<SP>2</SP>is H or a 1-10C alkyl or haloalkyl; R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-10C alkyl; X is a halogen atom; and M is an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal).
