PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition having excellent transparency and high chroma and not causing a framing phenomenon in an edge part, to provide a method for forming a coating film and to obtain a coated material. SOLUTION: In the coating composition for base coating containing dye (A), the coating composition has the mass ratio of the dye (A) to a coating film-forming resin (B) satisfying the condition of (A)/(B) of 0.01/99.99-25/75. The method for forming a coating film comprises coating or not coating a substrate with a primer layer, coating the substrate with a base coating layer using the coating composition and coating the base coating layer with a top coating layer using a clear coating.
