PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for a wet friction material, having a small initial variation of the friction coefficient when used as a wet friction material, improved positive gradient ofΔμ-V property and excellent durability and provide a wet friction material having a small initial variation of the friction coefficient, improved positive gradient ofΔμ-V property and excellent durability. SOLUTION: The resin composition for the wet friction material is composed mainly of a phenolic resin obtained by reacting a phenol with an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst and contains a granular filler having a specific surface area of 35-410 m2/g as an additive.
