PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using elliptical toner as toner for developing an electrostatic latent image so that it is more easily aligned than spherical toner at the time of developing, and efficiently removing toner remaining on a photoreceptor after a transfer stage, whereby an image defect such as faulty cleaning is not caused. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has at least a means for forming an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier, a developing means for forming a toner image on the image carrier, and a means for transferring the toner image formed on the image carrier to an intermediate transfer body or recording material.
